Agriculture and transport pose problems in meeting agreed air pollution limits
Emissions from agriculture and transport continue to pose problems for European Union Member States in meeting EU and United Nations air pollution limits, according to updated data published by the European Environment Agency (EEA) today. While emissions of most air pollutants remain on a downward trend, ammonia emissions continued to rise in 2016.
Advent to acquire GE’s Distributed Power business
Advent International, one of the largest global private equity investors, announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire General Electric‘s Distributed Power business for $3.25 billion. The transaction includes Distributed Power’s Jenbacher and Waukesha engines, as well as manufacturing sites in Austria, Canada and the U.S.
Implementation Plan of SET-Plan Action 8 Bioenergy and Renewable Fuels for Sustainable Transport
On 13 June 2018 the SET-Plan Steering Group approved the Implementation Plan of SET-Plan Action 8 Bioenergy and Renewable Fuels for Sustainable Transport. The plan was prepared by a working group co- chaired by industrial experts from ETIP Bioenergy over the last nine months. It details the European Research and Innovation activities required until 2030 to reach the strategic targets for this sector.
Pkw-Neuzulassungen: 3,4% im 1. Halbjahr; ¼ mehr alternativ betriebene Pkw
Im 1. Halbjahr 2018 wurden 192.861 Pkw neu zum Verkehr zugelassen, um 3,4% mehr als im Vorjahr. Damit liegt das Halbjahresergebnis um 6.300 Pkw-Neuzulassungen über jenem des Halbjahres 2017 (186.561).
Ausdehnung von Ackerflächen reduziert CO2-Aufnahme
Pflanzen binden einen Teil des Treibhausgases Kohlendioxid (CO2), das vor allem durch Verbrennen fossiler Energieträger in die Atmosphäre freigesetzt wird. Veränderte Landnutzung, wie die immer noch zunehmende Abholzung von Wäldern, lässt erwarten, dass sich die CO2-Aufnahmekapazität dieser Flächen künftig verringern wird. Darauf weist eine Studie des Karlsruher Instituts für Technologie hin.
Nachhaltiger Palmölanbau?
Rund 60 Millionen Tonnen Palmöl werden jährlich produziert. Umweltschützer warnen vor den Folgen. In Ländern wie Malaysia und Indonesien, die mit 75% den Großteil des globalen Palmöl-Bedarfs abdecken, macht die Rodung des Regenwaldes Sorgen. Noch gibt es keine überzeugende Alternative zum Palmöl, wie eine Studie der Umweltorganisation WWF zeigt.

Liquefied biogas for a Swedish ship
Skangas have supplied the Swedish shipping company Furetank with Liquefied Biogas (LBG). The LBG was delivered to Furetank’s M/T FURE VINGA from Skangas. The fueling took place at Gothenburg, transferring the fuel directly from a tanker truck to the ship.
Growing Passenger car registrations in the EU
In June 2018, passenger car registrations posted a robust increase (+5.2%) across the EU, totaling almost 1.6 million new cars. In volume terms. Results were diverse among the five major EU markets. The United Kingdom (-3.5%) and Italy (-7.3%) both posted declines, while demand for cars increased in France (+9.2%), Spain (+8.0%) and Germany (+4.2%).
Record amount of Biofuels in California 2016
The Californian transportation sector, the state’s largest source of greenhouse gases, saw a 2 % increase in emissions in 2016 because of increased fuel consumption.
